Program

COOKING CLASS: 4:30PM – 6:30PM

Inspired by Lidia Bastianich’s generosity and commitment to education, Alicia will teach a hands-on cooking class focusing on the pleasure of the primi piatti. During class, you will create delicate egg pasta from two simple ingredients, coax rice into a mouthwatering risotto and make a vibrant side dish, contorni for soft polenta. Most of the ingredients will come from the rich agricultural landscape that surround the magical LongHouse Barn.

DINNER: 7:00PM

After the hands-on cooking class, Alicia will be serving a delicious four-course dinner.

Speakers

Alicia Walter (2014 LongHouse Chef-in-Residence) is a chef, educator, and writer who is working on her first book, following olive harvests around the world. She cooks responsively,with well-honed skills, lots of heart, and a reverence for the nature of her ingredients. During her two years as the Chef of La Scuola di Eataly, Alicia taught classes on regional Italian cuisines and various cooking techniques.  She learned the finer points of the Italian first course, the primo, under the tutelage of Lidia Bastianich, the First Lady of Italian Cooking.

Location

Chefs Night Out will take place at the LongHouse barn: 83 Stewart Road, Berne, NY 12023.

Transportation

BY CAR Located 2 hours and 40 minutes north of New York City, 3 hours west of Boston and about 40 minutes southwest of Albany by car. Those with cars are encouraged to drive. Free parking is available on Stewart Road.

BY TRAIN Those traveling from New York City can travel by train from New York Penn Station to Hudson, New York via Amtrak. From Hudson, taxi service is available to The Ararat Center (30 minutes) or to Chefs Night Out (50 minutes). Taxis from Hudson are available with Columbia Taxi, 518-822-1010, and are approximately $55 one-way to the LongHouse barn. To guarantee availability, we recommend booking train and taxi reservations in advance.

BY AIR The closest major airports are located in Albany (40 minutes by car), Hartford, CT (2 hours 15 minutes by car) New York City (2 hours 40 minutes by car) and Boston (3 hours by car).
