Course Description
This food blogging intensive combines interviews and lectures by some of the great food bloggers of our day such as Shauna Ahern (glutenfreegirl.com), Elise Bauer (simplyrecipes.com), Beth Kirby (localmilkblog), Molly Wizenberg (orangette) and Elissa Altman (poormansfeast.com). The workshop focuses on writing and presenting a blog, providing the skills for beginners as well as established bloggers to take their blogs to the next juicy level.
In addition to lectures on the written craft of food blogging, the seminar includes interviews on photography, podcasting, and videography with Matthew Amster-Burton (spilledmilk.com), Michael Harlan Turkell (harlanturk.com), Debra and Rod Smith (smithbites.com), Kate Medley (katemeldey.com), David Ellner (panna, a cooking app) and the use of social media to drive blog traffic with Dave Feller (yummly.com) and Maggy Keet (http://threemanycooks.com/).
The weekly interview is pre-recorded as a podcast, allowing students to listen at their convenience. The weekly call-in workshop features a short talk and peer review of each student’s work. The workshop groups are small and are comprised of writers with similar skills, publishing experience and goal. Assignments range from 300 to 600 words. The initial class is devoted to personal branding/blog identity. Those who do not already have an established blog are strongly encouraged to establish their forum after this first discussion and prior to the second class.
